Amy E. Kerr, Ph.D.
LICENSED PSYCHOLOGIST
Amy E. Kerr, Ph.D., is a State of Kansas Licensed Psychologist and an independent practitioner with specialty training in the areas of child and adolescent psychology and a focus on treatment of anxiety disorders.
Dr. Kerr provides assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of mental health disorders in children, adolescents, and adults. She works with her clients to achieve their therapeutic goals through collaborative, relationally-based treatment. She employs multiple therapeutic methods tailored to the specific issues identified in therapy. She uses cognitive behavioral therapy, exposure and response prevention in her treatment of OCD and anxiety disorders.
Dr. Kerr believes that each person is capable of positive growth and change, yet often, individuals may not know exactly how to start that process in their own lives. Dr. Kerr's goal is to help her clients discover their individual process of growth and change that can then be used throughout the course of their lives as challenges emerge.
Dr. Kerr began her career as an educator. She taught first grade at Skyline Elementary School in Stillwater, Oklahoma before returning to graduate school. Dr. Kerr received her Doctorate in Counseling Psychology at the University of Missouri, and completed a post-doctoral fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychology at the University of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita. Before joining The Therapy Center, Dr. Kerr worked for 16 years at Prairie View serving the needs of her clients, first in an inpatient setting, and then in the West Wichita Prairie View office.
Dr. Kerr is married with two grown children, and two beloved Scottish Terriers (Woodrow and Kenna). Her guilty pleasures include watching reality shows such as Survivor and American Idol.
